Porches, additions, dormer tops and light commercial buildings need a membrane, not shingles. Shingles on a low pitch are the single most common cause of the leaks we get called out on.
WHY LOW SLOPE LEAKS
Water moves slowly on a low pitch and sits in seams. A membrane is watertight across the whole plane instead of relying on gravity, which is why it is the only correct answer under about a 2:12 pitch.
